Amazing Truths

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32

Global Economic Downturn? Worry not!

The word for today is simply, “worry not.” Is there anything bothering you – something you fear might or might not happen? Are you worried about you finances – how you will manage in this global economic downturn? well, Jesus had and still has this to say(Matthew 6:25-32) :

“Therefore, I say unto you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which one of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

so why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lillies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore do not worry saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all of these things.”

Jesus, here, is not promoting laziness, neither is He telling us not to plan for the future. He is simply telling us to do away with worrying. Worrying can affect our health and even more importantly, our faith. In verse 27, He asks: “Which one of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” In other words, you can’t change the situation by worrying. Worrying will just add to your problems as it will adversely affect your health.

In verse 33, Jesus adds, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Your primary concern must be for your salvation and the salvation of others. Jesus has to be your saviour and Lord of your life. That brings us back to how verse 25 of Matthew 6 began. The first word is “therefore.” Which means there was something before it and we find it in Verse 24. Jesus says: “No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” If one is given to worrying, the worries can lead him/her to break principles of righteousness, just to make a living and by that, serving another master – mammon.

God bless you as you resist the temptation to worry.
